Fat Free Foods

Fat free is not the same thing as calorie free. Not even close. fat free foods tend to be loaded with all kinds of artificial things that make them calorie rich, which is what you want to avoid more than fat. Just because some thing is low in fat doesn’t mean that you can eat as much of it as you like.

List of Fat Free Foods:

DAIRY

Fat Free Skim Milk still delivers the same amount of protein and calcium as whole milk. Dairy products made from skim milk also are fat free. Nonfat yogurt does not contain any fat. Cottage cheese, like milk, comes in whole, 2 percent and fat-free versions, also providing the same nutrients as fat-laden cheese. Ice cream made with skim milk is fat free. The American Academy of Family Physicians warns consumers to beware of the many products that use sugar to make up for the lack of taste in fat-free products.

FRESH FOODS

Most fruits and vegetables have no fat in their purest forms. Coconuts and avocados are exceptions. It’s usually the sauces, butter and other toppings you put on fruits and vegetables that increase the fat content. Most beans and legumes are fat-free when they are closest to their natural form. Canned beans often don’t have added fats and are ready to eat.

CONDIMENTS

While creams and sauces typically are loaded with fat, there are many fat-free condiments you can use to flavor food. Soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, mustard and ketchup are fat free. Vinegar is available in a wide range of flavors to add fat-free flavor to dishes. Salsa made with natural ingredients like tomatoes, peppers, cilantro, onions, parsley and lime juice or other vegetables is another fat-free condiment that can spice up a meal. Find a number of fat-free barbecue sauces on the supermarket shelves.

GRAINS

Grains are fat-free in their natural state, although most people don’t eat raw grains. Look for products that do not contain added fat to make them more flavorful. There are a few bagels on the market that do not contain added fats. Manufacturers, such as Healthy Choice and Healthy Valley, produce a number of breakfast bars that are fat-free. Fat free grain sources are available in a number of cereals too, such as Bran Flakes, Puffed Wheat and Puffed Rice, All-Bran and Cream of Wheat.

Take, for example granola cereal,1/2 cup of regular granola cereal has roughly 250 calories, yet the same amount of low-fat granola cereal has about 210 calorie. That isn’t a significant difference many people think that the low fat version can be consumed with reckless abandon. All that stands to do is shoot your caloric intake through the roof’ undermining your fitness goals. The comparison is even more evident with peanut butter, where two tablespoons of reduced-fat and regular peanut butter both contain roughly 190 calorie.

Fat free foods also tend to be deficient in essential vitamins and minerals, as the refining processes that remove the fat also tend to remove those vital nutrients. Fat soluble vitamins such vitamin E tend to be seriously lacking in fat free ‘which contributes to the large amount of fat -free dieters falling below their recommended daily intake of vitamin E.

While fat free foods can be better for you in term of saturated fat content’ it is important to remember that saturated fat and calorie are not the only things that affect your nutrition. As with any fitness-oriented diet, you should make sure that your vitamin and mineral intake is adequate’ easiest by simply taking a multivitamin that  includes your required intake on the important nutrients.

Be aware and be smart. Don’t let yourself get caught in their fat free foods trap. Always check the labels of the fat- free foods you are considering and compare it with regular foods too see what the difference in calorie is. You can also try foods that are naturally low in calories that will fill you up like bananas for example. And oh yeah, remember i said earlier, eat better and exercise? Well don’t forget to exercise. No one likes this part but you can do little things to help burn calorie everyday. Take the stairs at work instead of the elevator. Take a walk after dinner or before you go to work in the morning.

The point is diet alone will not get You too where u want too be when it comes too weight loss.  It is good to remember too that whether you are eating fat free or regular foods, you should enjoy them in moderation. Too much of any food,  fat free foods or not, is never a good thing.
